It takes a village to raise a child, and today, I’m asking you to join me in being part of that village for the children in the mountains of Hoa Binh. In Giap Dat village, located 180 km (a 4-hour drive) from Hanoi, these children face unimaginable challenges daily and they constantly struggle with finding basic needs like warm clothes, hot meals, or blankets.
This November, I’m returning to Vietnam with a mission to make a difference. My goal is to raise $5,000 to provide winter jackets and blankets for 300 underserved children. A jacket costs $5 and a blanket costs $10. These small items can make a big difference, shielding the children from the harsh winter and giving them the warmth they need to focus on their education.
Why does this matter? My mother always told me she’d do whatever it took to ensure we got an education, knowing it was the key to a better life. But for these children, the path to education isn’t just about studying hard—it’s about surviving the journey to school. They walk miles in the freezing cold, their tiny bodies battling the wind and rain with every step. Poverty grips them tightly, making the dream of education seem so far away. If they don’t have enough food to eat or warm clothes to wear, how can they dream of a brighter future?
This September and October, for every book I sell, I’ll donate $1 to buy winter jackets and blankets for these underserved children. A donation of $10—same price as a cup of boba tea or a Starbucks coffee—can provide a child with both a warm coat and a cozy blanket. It’s a small amount for us, but it means everything to a child in need.
Sometimes, miracles aren’t made of magic—they’re made of kindness. When we give, we create warmth in our own hearts as well as the receivers. I invite you to open your heart and join me in this mission. Your generosity will wrap these children in warmth, allowing them to continue their education and chase their dreams without the burden of the cold winter.
Please consider making a donation to support this cause. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, brings us closer to our goal of raising $5,000 to help 300 children. Together, we can ensure that these children have a warm and safe winter, and the opportunity to pursue their education.
